The monolever rear shock idea does not work with the GS frame, the design of the upper mounting point is different where on the GS the shock 3. I have therefore modified a monolever rear shock, shortened by 5. I am also contemplating to go for a thumper as my local dirt ride an XT5. The GS is just to heavy for that. That and this new R1. GS would make my R8. GS surplus to requirements, sort of. So it will be sold. I am tackling the engine first after a quick rework of the carbs, back last year, I had the engine running. It wasnt running too bad, a little rough but I did expect that because it wasnt properly tuned. Checking the timing chain is my next task. I got a 3 jaw 4in Bearing puller and removed first bearing and the crankshaft gear. The crankshaft gear isnt completely toast yet, but is being replaced. The chain is knackered, as you could see on the above video. Got myself a drift, a 1 12 x 3 in steel pipe, availab. Ie in Home Depots plumbing section. Heat up bearing and crankshaft gear, a bag of ice to cool the crankshaft and the jobs half done. I did not support the flywheel center, so I might have buggered bearing and thurst sleeve completely.
